Project: Palestinian American Women's Poetry: Contesting and Constructing Home through Articulation and Embodiment
This project explores specific trends in Palestinian American women’s poetry and poetic writing, arguing that Palestinian American women poets struggle against and within the notion of home. When exploring this notion, these writers often highlight the necessity of using language and writing while simultaneously critiquing language’s inadequacy to combat corporeal violence. Ultimately, a marriage of embodiment and language is needed to construct a hybrid notion of home, one in which Palestinianism itself moves from a specific designation to a metaphor—and then eventually shifts back to the body and its vulnerabilities.
